Nomasis Webinar: Latest News about the major iOS and Android Releases
iOS 15
When developing iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, Apple also thought about the requirements of companies. Even if the business context of the new operating system versions iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 was somewhat lost at the WWDC 2021 keynote – in the subsequent sessions of the Apple developer conference, adaptations for business use were very much a topic and there were a number of exciting announcements. We would like to present the most important ones in this webinar.
When talking about important changes we need to talk about the new MDM-Commandos and Restrictions. For example on managed devices, a mobile device management (MDM) system can now install a single “required” app without prompting the user for user authorisation. Or users now have the option to update to iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 or can continue to stay on iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 and only apply bug-fixes. On the other hand, administrators can force iOS devices to allow all updates (e.g. upgrade to iOS 15) and/or only apply updates of the current major version (e.g. bug-fix for iOS 14).
Another hot topic is that the newly introduced declarative device management is optimised for the MDM server and enables devices to be managed more autonomously and to react more proactively. In other words, devices can react to status changes autonomously and apply logic based on these changes without being prompted by the MDM server.
Android 12
Looking back on 2020, the release of Android 11 had a massive impact on the enterprise. The wider adoption of higher target SDK levels for applications in Google Play and the big changes that came with the Android 11 privacy enhancements to work profiles on company-owned devices were both big focuses of testing last year. While Android 12 is not as impactful, it does come with a few key quality-of-life improvements, especially regarding personally owned devices.
Enrollment IDs for personally owned devices will likely be the most anticipated enterprise feature of Android 12. With many EMMs moving away from basing device records on non-resettable device identifiers for privacy reasons, duplication of records for re-enrolling devices became a challenge. Also Password complexity has always been hard to manage, but it gets easier in Android 12 with the new API to set a full-device passcode requirement for work profile devices.
Unmanaged devices with managed certificates will become easier to support with the new feature to grant certificate management capabilities to 3rd-party apps on unmanaged devices.
This is by far not all, so join the webinar to get the complete overview of the release updates.
Agenda at a glance:
- General information about the releases and release date, general features etc.
- New possibilities for device management
- Breaking changes / Challenges for device management in Intune and MobileIron
- App signing and deployment etc.
- Device lifecycle management for Android and iOS (how many major releases? Security patch levels etc?)
